Ingie on CBC 204

Ingrid was interviewed by Wab Kinew on the CBC Winnipeg show 204 http://www.cbc.ca/the204/

In support of her May 2009 Riding the Rails tour with Miss Emily Brown

Beautiful Features.

So I follow the Bruce Cockburn mailing list and this guy just posted a parody of one of Cockburn's songs. The original song is Beautiful Creatures a wonderful song. I think I loaded up Beautiful Creatures in a Grooveshark Widget in the sidebar ---->

But this is fun too.

Beautiful Features

There a sag in my gut
It gets bigger each day
And what's left of my hair
Is polychrome grey
When you have reached middle age
What is there to say?
My beautiful features are going away

Like the values in my heart
My sphincter is worn
So I no longer eat bran
And avoid kernel corn
And my man-boobs are hanging
There on display
My beautiful features are going away

Why? Why?

From age spots on my wrinkles
To the shape of my ass
To the ache in my knees
From cutting the grass
I'm old and I know it
Now where's the buffet?
My beautiful features are going away

Twitter on Apture

Just checking this out looks very cool! An integration between Apture and Twitter.

So just put in any Twitter addy like this @ggatin and Apture will recognize it and allow you to access the Twitter stream.

Lets see if this works.

Sure enough! Highlight my Twitter name @ggatin and Apture will show you all my Tweets. Brilliant!

Even downloaded the new Apture addon for Firefox which put an Apture tool on my blog editor. Slick clicking!

Past, Future and Meanwhile

I heard a great quote on the CBC Radio program Words at Large radio the other day driving out to go skiing. Elenor Wachtell was interviewing Lynda Barry cartoonist. She is darkly funny. She talks about wanting a Timemachine with buttons for Past, Future and Meanwhile. (at 0:48 min mark)

Here we go Loopty Lou

Darling daughter Ingrid just got an arts council grant to spend a month figuring out how to incorporate a looping effects pedal into her vocal/mandolin/accordion traveling road show.

She is up at her grandparents cabin in Northern Sask at Christopher lake.

She is planning an eastern tour this spring to Ontario and Quebec and got Via rail sponsorship for the tour. Free 15 day rail pass for her and her partner as they go from gig to gig.

Talk about the great Canadian cultural meme: country connected by a song, a railroad, a dream.

I attached this video of Phil Keaggy using a looping outfit of some kind. Technically brilliant and the guy is smiling the while. I love it and passed it on to Ingie.

I don't need no doctor

Lyrics by Ray Charles (Sweet rendition by John Mayer and John Scofield.)
I don't need no doctor'Cause I know What's ailing me
I don't need no doctor No, no 'Cause I know What's ailing me

I've been too long away From my baby, ahh
I'm coming down With a misery

I don't need no doctor For my prescription To be filled
I don't need no doctor I tell ya now For my prescription To be filled
Only my baby's arms could ever take away this chill

Now the doctor Say I need rest Before I need Her tenderness
Put me on the critical list when all I need is her sweet kiss
He gave me a medicated lotion but it didn't soothe my emotion

I don't need no doctor, for my hope to live is gone
I don't need no doctor, my hope to live is gone
All I need is my baby, baby, please won't you please come on home?

I don't need no aspirins I don't need no lotion
I say, I don't need ,no vitamin pills
I don't need no lotion I say, I don't need No vitamin pills

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.

Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Your Tweetin' Heart

Your Tweeting heart will make you weep
You'll cry and cry and try to sleep
But slee-eep won't come the whole night through
Your Tweetin' heart will tell on you

When Twitter's down and the fail whale glows
You'll do the dishes and go outdoors,
You'll wash the floor, the way I do
Your Tweetin' heart will tell on you

Your Tweetin' heart will pine some day
And crave the time you threw away
The day will come when you'll be blue
Your Tweetin' heart will tell on you

When Twitter's down and there's work to do
You'll toss around and and do a job or two
You'll wash the floor, the way I do
Your Tweetin' heart will tell on you

Paul Newman

Some quotes attributed to Paul Newman on the occasion of his demise. Not necessarily a big fan but some of these were pithy. I got them from from a post on Humans and passed them on to my buddy Dave M.

If you don't have enemies, you don't have character.

If you're playing a poker game and you look around the table and and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.

Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.

Newman's first law: It is useless to put on your brakes when you're upside down.

Newman's second law: Just when things look darkest, they go black.

People stay married because they want to, not because the doors are locked.

Show me a good loser and I will show you a loser.

Tulips in the Snow

Took these pics April 24, 2008 in Brandon. Tulips in the snow always make me think of the Steve Goodman song, the Dutchman. .....He thinks the tulips bloom beneath the snow. He's mad as he can be but Margret only sees that sometimes, most times she see her unborn children in his eyes.

Came across some great clips of Goodman on YouTube. The Dutchman.

The Ballad of Penny Evans still is an all time great song.
